About
Samantha Blackburn is a South African born DJ, producer, curator and founder of Buntu, whose passion for underground electronic music is evident every time she steps behind the decks. Her instinctive track selection, warm presence and ability to build an emotional journey on the dancefloor create memorable experiences that resonate long after the music ends. Her distinctive style has earned recognition from Mixmag, who named her one to “keep an eye on.” Having spent over 18 years immersed in London’s electronic music scene, Samantha has established herself as one of the city’s respected underground selectors. Making her London debut at Mooch, she quickly went on to play at Jaded and held a long running residency with Get Diverted. Throughout her career she has shared the stage with artists including Slam, Josh Wink, Anja Schneider, Mr C, Catz N Dogz, Robert Babicz, DJ T, Ray Okpara, Todd Terry and Just Her. International bookings have taken her to Time in the Philippines, Area 51 on Boracay Island and venues across South Africa, while also making her debut in the main room at the legendary Fabric in London for WYS! Drawing inspiration from her South African roots, Samantha has developed a sound built around rolling percussion, hypnotic grooves and rich atmospheric textures. Blending Afro Techno, Deep Tech, Minimal and Techno influences with soulful melodies and tribal rhythms, her sets are immersive, driving and deeply emotive. In 2016 she released her debut EP, Retrograde, on Mind Ability Records, featuring a remix by Geshe. In 2013 Samantha founded Buntu, a creative platform born from a desire to connect people through music, culture and collaboration.
